Salary of an Iowa State Patrol Officer

To be a state patrol officer in Iowa, you should meet the basic requirements at first, and be willing to pass the selection process.

You must be a United States citizen in order to apply. And you must be at least 18 years of age. The education requirements are not very high. Only a high school diploma is required. A GED certificate is also OK. The physical requirements include vision and hearing ones. You must have vision of 20/100 uncorrected, and 20/20 corrected, in each eye. Your hearing must be normal, i.e. matching the human normal hearing frequency scope.

If you had your driver’s license revoked or suspended in the past 3 years, you will be dismissed from the selection process. In other words, you should have good driving records. And of course, you should have a current valid driver’s license.

A drug user is not allowed to apply. If you used drugs other than marijuana in the past 10 years, you cannot apply. And if you used marijuana in the past 2 years, you cannot apply, either. The is the standards of drug policy in Iowa state.

As with other states, Iowa’s patrol officer selection process includes a mandatory physical fitness test. It measures your strength, stamina, and flexibility. The physical fitness test includes sit-ups, push-ups, and 1.5-mile run.

There is a written test as well. The purpose of the written test is to make sure you have the basic math skills, reading comprehension ability, grammar and spelling knowledge, and writing skills. The minimum passing mark is 70 out of 100.
