Salary of a Hawaii State Trooper

In Hawaii, the average salary for state trooper is $46,269. And the starting salary is $38,104. After working for some time, you can expect the salary to rise to $54,435. However, the Hawaii state trooper salary varies with different locations and the troopers’ ranks or positions. According to the statistics, the average monthly state trooper salary is between $3,085 and $4,627. And the starting monthly salary is between $2,540 and $3,810. And the top monthly salary is between $3,629 and $5,443.

 

Besides the decent salary, the troopers get many additional benefits as well. If they work overtime, they get overtime pay. There are paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, military leave, and accidental injury leave. They are also covered by health and life insurance. Plus they have a retirement program which guarantees their financial safety in old age. The troopers can retire after 25 years of service.

To be a Hawaii state trooper is a very good career choice. On the one hand, Hawaii islands have the most beautiful scenery in the world. You can enjoy the sunshine, water, and beaches. On the other hand, you get this steady, meaningful job as a state trooper. However, the recruitment process is quite challenging. There are a lot of competitions, and you have to satisfy some basic requirements and pass a series of rigorous tests.

The applicant must be a U.S. citizen and must be at least 21 years old by the time of application. He must have a valid driver’s license. He must be a high school graduate diploma or equivalent qualifications such as a GED.  He should be qualified to carry weapons in accordance with the federal laws.

The candidates must have good eyesight. The minimum vision requirements are 20/40 uncorrected and 20/20 corrected. If they wear soft contact lenses, they must have 20/200 vision or better, before correction. They should also have normal hearing.

The candidates who met with basic requirements should go through the physical fitness test. The test is designed to evaluate the person’s physical strength and stamina. It consists of sit-ups, push-ups, and 1.5 mile run.

The additional phases of the selection process include a written examination, oral interview, and background investigation. The candidates will be subject to drug testing. Then they must successfully pass the polygraph examination, psychological examination, and medical examination.
