Idaho State Police Salary

The pay rate for Idaho State Police Officer varies according to the years of experience. According to the relevant laws and regulations, to be eligible for the Idaho State Police position, the applicant must have an Idaho POST Basic Patrol Certificate. POST stands for Idaho Peace Officer Standards & Training. An equivalent certificate from another state is also OK. He should also have at least three years of experience working as a commissioned law enforcement officer in a law enforcement agency. Therefore, the salary starts from 3 years of law enforcement experience.

There are different levels of starting pay rate based on the years of law enforcement experience. For example, level one is 3-4 years, level two is 5-6 years. So the salary starts from $17.85 per hour, and increase step by step to $18.42, $21.12, $22.61, $23.46 and more.

Of course, there are additional benefits as well. They have health, dental, vision, and group life insurance. There are paid sick leave, vacation leave, and family medical leave. They also benefit from a retirement program.

If you want to be an Idaho state police officer, you should apply and be willing to pass the tests. However, there are some minimum qualifications. I will introduce them below. You can check to see if you meet the requirements.

First, you must be a United States citizen to apply. Second, you should meet the education level requirements, namely you should have a high school diploma or GED. You should have at least 2 years of work experience or higher study after high school graduation. Third, your fingerprint will be scanned by the FBI and the Idaho State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification. If you are found to have previous conviction for any crime, you may be rejected. Forth, since you need to drive law enforcement vehicles when you are on duty, you must possess a driver’s license.

There are additional qualifications, too. They are related to the drug policy, medical, vision, and hearing capacity, and physical fitness standards. I will explain the last one, particularly. The POST Physical Fitness Test includes vertical jump, one minute sit-ups, maximum push-ups, 300-meter run, and 1.5-mile run/walk.

You should understand the employment disqualifiers, too. If you have any of them, you will be rejected in the selective process.  If you have got dishonorable military discharges, you are disqualified. If you have any felony conviction, you are disqualified. If you do not meet the requirements of drug policy in Idaho State, you are disqualified. There are several other disqualifiers, too. But generally, if you are a good human being, I think you would not have any of them. The state police position is a catch, but it’s obtainable.
