Alabama State Trooper Salary

Alabama state troopers are paid in different scales. In other words, payment increases with their steps in working. For example, the entry-level troopers’ salary is $1483 in half a month. They are paid semi-monthly. Then after one year’s successful probation period, the trooper may be raised for one or two steps. The salary of step 1 is the $1483 aforementioned. Troopers at step 2 get $1520 semi-monthly; troopers at step 3 get $1558, etc. Based on the performance, the troopers may get raised for one or two steps annually. There are 22 steps in total. The troopers with an associate degree will start at the second step ($1520 semi-monthly).

 

Here are the state trooper’s job definition and responsibilities:

State troopers are referred to as highway patrol officers. Their duty is enforcing motor vehicle laws. However, besides enforcing laws on highways, state troopers should also assist local police in handling emergencies, apprehending wanted individuals, and preventing general crimes. State troopers issue citations for traffic violations and solve motor vehicle accidents. State troopers are armed to protect themselves and the city. It’s a state level job. So the requirements vary by state. Now I introduce the requirements of Alabama state trooper.

Requirements of Alabama state trooper:

The candidate must be at least 21 years old. He must have a driver’s license issued in Alabama State.  His education level must be above high school, i.e. he should be a high school graduate or possesses a GED. And of course, he must be U.S. citizen of good moral character. A felony conviction automatically disqualifies the candidate. He must be willing to work overtime once employed. The trooper may be assigned works at any location in the State of Alabama; he must be willing to accept the work assignments.

To be selected as a state trooper in Alabama, the prospective candidate must pass several selection procedures. He will be given a written examination for trooper; then he will have to pass a physical ability test and a vision test. He will be interviewed by the recruiting officer. The Alabama Department of Public Safety will carry out an in-depth background investigation of him, including polygraph examination and drug screening. Then he is examined medically, physically, and psychologically. The purpose of the test is to make sure he is fit for the job on all sides.
